Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students are mainly ESOL (English as a second language). Their parents are mainly immigrants from Hispanic countries such as Cuba,Venezuela, Columbia, and Nicaragua. They speak only Spanish. I enjoy involving them in well rounded activities that help them develop the vocabulary they need to succeed in Kindergarten. The VPK program at our school provides the building blocks they require to achieve high standards in math as well as phonological and language development to transition to kindergarten.

My Project

Early childhood students need a safe place to sit on while learning and engaging in various educational activities during their day. Such activities as greeting circle, large and small group activities, movement exercises and sing a long as well as finger play activities. A large rug is essential for this age group. The colors, numbers and letters as well as the pictures provided on each square allow for the development of educational lessons that will promote more learning to take place or enrich activities throughout the segments of the day. This rug can also be used as a rest area during restime.
