Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, "Leave your mark on the world," is the class motto in my "The Day You Begin" themed classroom.

I firmly believe these kids will leave their mark on the world.

My second-grade students are future world changers with an amazing set of skills. Within this group, you'll find the questioner with the power to inquire about anything and everything; the informer, who uses life experiences and book knowledge to keep us in the know; the reinforcer, who reminds us of content knowledge and connects it to the real world; the dreamer, who tells us about the endless possibilities; the captain, who keeps the class motivated and at times, in line; and a host of others, making them the most powerful team around.

My Project

In a year unlike no other, students were forced into a paperless world. There were no happy parents pushing carts filled with school supplies, no bookbags full of notebooks and worksheets; instead, the sole school supply was an ipad. Students completed assignments, watched virtual lessons and even played learning games, all thanks to apps and websites. This was a great solution at the time, but now, it's time to get back to normal.

My students are far too young to be on tablets all day, nor should they have to be.

I am requesting basic classroom materials including paper and folders to allow students to be kids again. There is something powerful about tangible classroom materials. Being able to manipulate cards and write using simple pencil and paper, versus a stylus and ipad, truly makes a difference. Now that "they're going back," help me make sure that they have what they need to be ipad free, or at least less screen dependent.
