My Students

Our school is supportive and diverse. We are truly a constellation of many cultures who have come together to create a close knit family. We are, also, a population of mixed abilities and talents-with some students taking college courses as early as ninth grade and others struggling to stay afloat a grade level. The challenge is meeting everyone's needs in ways that allow all to advance and succeed. Hands on experiences have a wide appeal to the many learners we service.

My Project

Students will test different amounts of salt in water to see the how the concentration of salt will hinder or help their ability to raise Brine Shrimp in the classroom. Yes, folks - the Sea Monkeys of yesteryear. Hands-on Ecology!

Many of my students have never been to the ocean or a beach.

Experience with raising brine shrimp will give them a better sensibility of these nearby, but, elusive ecosystems. This experience combined with looking at water quality at a local wetland will heighten students appreciation of the importance of preserving nature in a meaningful way they will not forget.
