This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Whew! Time passes so quickly, doesn't it? It seems like only yesterday I was preparing to teach my first class of third graders, and now, seven short years later, I am gearing up to usher in my eighth batch of eight year-olds.

Over the years, my students have continually surprised and amazed me with their ability to meet and ,for some, exceed my ever-increasing expectations.

In my mind, I can flick through a catalog of their faces and call upon terrific instances where they wowed me with their intelligence or toppled my doubt with their insight. It has been nothing but a pleasure to come to work and teach everyday and I am once again looking forward to meeting whatever challenges they present with energy and fortitude.

My Project

But oh, what other challenges remain. I came into teaching in 2003, when budgets were tight and we faculty members had to rely solely on our own purses to fund class projects and outfit our classrooms. For me, that pain was relieved in 2005, when I began to use DonorsChoose and found within it a community whose munificence continues to defy all expectation. Today, as school budgets continue to cruelly shrink just as my class size creeps ever and ever higher, I am once again calling upon the DonorsChoose community to help me set up my room for the upcoming year. Included in this request are some celebrated favorites (the "Time for Kids" subscription, the Phonics and Cursive books for the entire 3rd grade, and a few replacement SeatSacks), as well as a replacement piece of organizational furniture. Also, included are a selection of math games and manipulatives designed to help my students better their financial literacy, an area that I have targeted for improvement this year.
