Help me give my students boots to get outside and explore nature! We want to take weekly walking trips to the Salt Marsh at Jamaica Bay! Here students can fish, find crabs, explore and wade in shallow water.

My Project

This class is a small family of students, with a lot of special needs. We are an ACES program (Academics, Career, and Essential Skills). We focus on giving our students the skills they needs to be happy, successful, productive members of society as adults.

My goal for this project is to get students outside, exploring nature, enjoying nature and embracing the magic of what we have in our own backyard!!

We are located in Brooklyn NY, the heart of the city, and just a short 20 minute walk away is the beautiful Jamaica Bay. Most of our students have never even been there! On our walking trips, we will have the opportunity to get our hands dirty and dig for crabs and mussels, learn to bait a fishing hook, throw out a fishing line, and even cast net. The students will get a chance to explore the Salt Marsh and its unique features and wildlife. In order to do this, they need the right gear. These rain boots are essential for allowing the students the option to explore this wet, marshy, slice of nature. They will be sanitized and reused for years to come.
