My students are curious learners, constantly asking questions, digging deeper, and trying to understand the world around them. They seek meaning rather than just comprehension, and are willing to do the work to get there. As an Environmentally focused school, my students are also always on the lookout for better ways to keep our planet and ourselves healthier.
These are kids who care; they care about the world around them and how their actions impact more than just themselves.
When an answer isn't simple or straight-forward, we learn how to use science in order to gather information and make positive changes for our school, community, and the environment.
My Project
Wind, rain, snow, mud. Nothing can keep our students indoors--whether it be for recess or a wildlife investigation or biodiversity study, nature is the place we want to be. After all, our school mission is to foster each student’s innate curiosity and joy of discovery. We prepare students to become excellent questioners, scientific thinkers, and responsible citizens, who are able to contribute to the world with confidence and character. We achieve this through student-centered, collaborative and experiential learning, with an emphasis on the environment as an integrating context. And the environment? That's outside.
But when it comes time to return indoors, nothing dampens a students drive to learn like wet feet.
Without the distraction of cold and wet feet, we'll be able to jump right into our indoor learning time. By supplying classrooms with boot driers, shoes can be quickly and efficiently dried out, which is especially important for students whose families might not be able to afford multiple pairs. Being able to dry out perhaps the only pair they have, will allow all students of all backgrounds to enjoy the outdoors without worrying about wet feet afterwards. This is a basic need. No student at an outdoor school should feel like they can't enjoy the outdoors.
