This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach second grade at a Title I school in the Bronx, New York. The majority of my students come from economically-disadvantaged households. The students in my class have a wide range of learning styles, interests, strengths and weaknesses, and backgrounds. Many of my students are English Language Learners from low income households. However, they are ready to learn and dedicated to doing well! I see my classroom as a safe community. We all work together and support one another.
Despite their many unique qualities, one thing that my students have in common is a strong desire to learn that is sometimes hindered by a lack of resources.
Although every day they are faced with many challenges both in and out of their homes, they come to school eager to learn. My students are creative, funny, hardworking and determined to do their best! These students face many difficulties including taking responsibilities beyond their ages. Yet, when they arrive to school, they are filled with a passion to learn as much as they can. Even with their challenges, my kids love learning and they love being at school. I want to encourage them to learn and grow throughout the school year.
My Project
Covid has set us back in our academics and our love for reading. Now that we have hit December students are starting to cruise into reading! It is an exciting time when students realize they can read AND that they love it. I would love to continue to grow their new love of reading by having fun, new & engaging stories for them to read. By donating to my project you are helping my students practice their phonics & sight word recognition as well as growing their love for books!
