This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hi everybody! I just wanted to let you know a little bit about myself and my students! I work as a 4th-grade teacher in a New York City public school teaching ELA to a combination of students including English Language Learners. The students come from all walks of life with a range of different strengths and needs and I am always trying to think of new and creative ways for my students to access their full potential both in and out of the classroom! Our school is a Title I school where all of the students belong to the free and reduced-price lunch program as we are in a primarily low-income neighborhood.

My students are not only hard-working but, they are also always excited to learn new things!

Unfortunately, many of them do not come to school with the supplies they need every day and/or with their basic needs met for reasons they have no control over; so it is usually up to myself and my fellow teachers to help them be successful in any way that we can! Even though this school year may look a little different, I still want to provide them with all they might need!

My Project

This project will help to supply my classroom with lots of supplies that my students need throughout the school year and unfortunately aren't always able to bring in from home. I try to supply whatever I can on my own, but this would be a huge help to make sure the kids get what they need!

By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve self-esteem and confidence (especially for those who are not able to get their own supplies), but also, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement by giving them tools to help them learn!

The materials from this project will be helpful for many reasons! The mesh document bags, pencil cases, pencil pouches, and large Ziploc bags will be used to help keep students' supplies separate from one another so they can have their own individual materials (esp. in light of what's going on in our world these days- I am trying to make it a share-free classroom for now-- usually we share supplies). The washi-tape rolls are to use as a way to distinguish who's supplies are who's (just by having students pick their favorite color and then apply it to their supplies so everyone knows who the materials belong to). The pencils, pens, erasers, glue sticks, dry erase markers, and scissors will be used to stock up the individual supply bags mentioned above. Then, of course, we need lots of tissues (both small individual packs and regular) and Purell hand sanitizer to help maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment. All of these supplies will really help to give my classroom a boost in morale and a sense of community, even though a lot of things are being separated these days!
