My Project

Our students love to explore their surroundings but require an access point that is interesting and fun. We have an inclusive classroom with students of different backgrounds and learning abilities. With 50% of our students having the placement of autism, comes a need for a modification of learning opportunities and environmental adjustments. Something that works with all children but particularly ones on the autism spectrum is familiarity and repetition. Furthermore, our classroom is made up of a majority of students from immigrant families. This means we require a comprehensive and easy way to learn new words and about the traditions of the new country they've entered into.

This book series allows our students to access their education in the seasons and different new holidays while expanding their vocabulary.

Our students need these books to be able to immerse themselves in the world. For this age, an access point is the most important way to cultivate interest and education. With each book, we will have crafts and activities that they can bring home and expand on with their families. With that comes conversation about different cultural traditions. We will then have a show and tell every week where the students will share their own family's ways of celebrating the season. This will create intrigue in other ways of being. We will measure our success with the conversations that will be had among friends and teachers about the subject matter and its expansion.
