Therapeutic Tools for Students With Sensory Sensitivities!

My Students

At our school, we understand that no two students fit the same mold. PS110 offers integrated co-teaching classes, where one special education teacher and one general education teacher collaborates to support all needs. Many of the students I work with have diagnoses of ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, and Learning Disabilities. My students are the hardest workers I have ever met. Our goal at PS110 is to create a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for all our students to learn. The materials requested will be available to all occupational therapy students from Pre-k to 5th grade.

My Project

Some of our students have sensory sensitivities, or defensiveness, that causes them to process touch as pain and noises as overwhelmingly loud. It is extremely difficult to focus and participate when your sensory system is overwhelmed.

Our students need specialized sensory equipment to help them process sensory input to feel more comfortable in learning and social situations.

These therapeutic brushes and vibrating pillows will help students with tactile defensiveness to better process information about school tools, their clothing, and light touch. Noise-canceling headphones and ear plugs will help my students who have auditory sensitivities to filter out excess noise so they can focus on their work and feel calmer.
