My Students

I'm a school social worker who works in an elementary school in Baltimore City. The students at my school are awesome. I work with students in the general education program and the special education program.

The students I work with are friendly, fun, and eager to learn.

A lot of the children struggle with understanding their feelings and knowing how to express their feelings appropriately. They also struggle with understanding how to make friends and how to respond appropriately in social situations.

My Project

The toys I ordered will benefit the students in my school during their in-person counseling sessions. I am a school social worker in an inner city school in Baltimore, Md. Research states that there is a chasm between how adults and children communicate. Children learn to understand the world and their place in it through play. Furthermore, during play children act out their inner feelings and deepest emotions.

Based on my experience as a licensed social worker, elementary school children love to play with sand, magnetics and legos.

The majority of the students who attend my school will be coming back for in-person learning for the first time in a year and a half. I have special education and general education students on my caseload. I also work with any students in the school that may require extra emotional support. I will be using the Build Me "Emotions" lego, sand toys and magnetics to help my students become less guarded and more comfortable expressing their feelings so that I can help them to handle their emotions appropriately.
