Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consists of creative, energetic, loving students. All of the students in my classroom are students with Autism and a few of the students are English language learners. My students enjoy hands-on learning, interactive activities, and sensory play.

A few of my students have issues with processing their feelings and require time for calming down.

My students are sensitive to bright lights and loud noises. My students will excel in a structured environment with a consistent routine schedule in place.

My Project

I am requesting a Peaceful Tropical Night Rug, a Vinyl Single Decko, and a LEGO DUPLO Build Me "Emotions" playset. These items will help me create a Therapeutic Corner in my classroom.

The Therapeutic Corner will be used for students to briefly get away from a frustrating task or overstimulating activity.

A Classroom Therapeutic Corner is a quiet area of the room equipped with soft furnishings and soothing materials to help students de-escalate when upset. Our Therapeutic Corner will be a safe place where students can go to calm themselves using pre-taught strategies for a short amount of time. The goal is to give the students a “time away” so that the behavior does not escalate any further.
