Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a first year theater teacher moving between two schools (middle and high), I strive to create spaces that foster creativity and imagination. Curating a welcoming, interesting and engaging classroom environment is an important element to teaching and it is essential to student learning.

Why is theater important to young people?

I believe it gives them an opportunity to grow, play, imagine and create. Stepping outside of our comfort zone is never easy. But by doing so, we open the doors to wonder, exploration, critical thinking and creativity. This work is critical to student growth and development. We challenge preconceived ideas, grow empathy and foster community and collaboration.

Please help us in creating the optimal space for these ideals to flourish.

My Project

The addition of theater curtains to our classroom will create a more inviting, interesting and engaging space.

This project is about appealing to students' imagination.

There is something magical about walking into a theater. The sights and the sounds spark our imagination and excite our senses. By reinventing some of those elements in the classroom, we hope to capture a bit of that magic for the students.

We are also asking for help with purchasing some basic items that are needed in the classroom. This includes pencils, crayons, pencil sharpeners and more. All of the items requested are critical components that reinforce the feeling of safety and comfort in the classroom.

Please help us in bring some magic to Bushwick! Thank you for your consideration.
