Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Fifth grade can be a little challenging at times. Students can get frustrated,

have a hard time managing their emotions, have sensory issues, and just want a little relaxation from time to time.

I would to create a space for my special education students where they can take a break away and retreat to the Zen Zone.

We are a 5th grade departmentalized ELA 12:1:1 special education class. My class will travel back and forth to their ELA and Math class. Transitions can be challenging at times for students. Our Zen Zone will be a great way to help with transitions as well as any difficulty they me be having with their class work and regulating their emotions.

In our Zen Zone students can step away from their class work and enjoy some alone time. They will have books to read, can listen to music with head phones on, and play with sensory items that will help them regulate their feelings. They will also enjoy different types of seating that is comfortable to them. The Zen Zone will help my students transition back to their class work and be able to enjoy the fun things we learn everyday. We hope you can support our classroom and make it relaxing and enjoyable this year!
