This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To ensure our students achieve academic success, it is essential to first address their social-emotional well-being. Unregulated emotions and a lack of self-awareness can significantly hinder their ability to engage with and learn in school. Each student brings a unique background to school, with some facing additional challenges such as low-income circumstances, relocation from another country, trauma, or other difficulties. Prioritizing their mental safety and stability is crucial.

With the proposed items, we aim to create a dedicated, therapeutic space within the school where students can access a quiet area for relaxation and stress relief at any time.

The iPad will serve as a valuable tool for providing video resources on crisis de-escalation, including box breathing, grounding techniques, and social stories. The printer will assist me in printing models, charts and social stories in a kid friendly manner in color ink. Additionally, play-doh, sensory balls, board games, stress relief toys, and an oil diffuser will collectively contribute to making this space a haven where students can unwind and feel secure.

This initiative is designed to support approximately 220 students, fostering an environment where they can manage their stress and enhance their overall well-being.
