Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students simply love working with technology. In a day and age where I am preparing them to be college and career ready, it is essential that they have the skills to manipulate modern technological devices to enhance their learning and naturally inquisitive nature.

Despite the often rough home life my students come from, they enter school each day with a positive attitude that influences me to give them my best.

Their natural curiosity and optimism leads them to seek out exciting learning experiences. Although many of them are faced with learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, or emotional disturbances they clearly communicate that school is where they want to be. Our school consists of approximately 1,200 students that bring a plethora of culture and experiences through our doors each day. The energy and sass of the middle school student is hard to copy but easy to be influenced by, and that is very clear here.

My Project

I spend a great deal of the school year developing my students' writing skills. As a result, each student produces approximately 20-25 formal essays each year. Many of them do not have home computers, but stress the desire to type their work to enhance its presentation. Moreover, all students are required to conduct in-class research. By having a keyboard, mouse, and speakers for our classroom tablet, the students will be able to conduct more diverse and effective research and type their essays once their final draft is completed.

These donations will enhance the technological aspect of our classroom.

Students will be able to navigate the Internet more effectively and produce a higher quality of work by being able to type their work. In addition, the implementation of typing programs will create another classroom resource and valuable skill that will be made possible by the keyboard.
