My Students

Pencils: one of the supplies needed each day in school, however many students come without these necessary materials. My students are no exception. Without a reliable pencil, classwork cannot be completed. We are in desperate need of good, quality pencils and an electric sharpener for classroom use.

I have a classroom of 21 fifth grade students, 10 girls and 11 boys.

Our school is a small, rural public school located in North Carolina. We have an interesting blend of personalities in our classroom, which can make for lively discussions and lessons. My students have limited educational opportunities outside of the classroom, as many come from economically disadvantaged homes. Families have limited funds for school supplies, and often what is purchased at the beginning of the school year is expected to last for the entire year. Many students begin to need more supplies during the second half of the year. Pencils are usually at the top of the needed supply list.

My Project

Without quality pencils and a dependable pencil sharpener, assignments that require pencil and paper can be impossible to complete. My students need these materials in order to participate in classroom activities. Although we do integrate technology as much as possible, and students have opportunities to use computers to complete assignments, pencils are still needed during a large portion of the school day. Providing reliable pencils to my students will remove the worries some of them have about not having needed supplies. The presence of a long-lasting pencil sharpener in the classroom will benefit students for many years.

We need pencils and a pencil sharpener.

I wish I had the funds to provide quality resources for my students, however school supplies can quickly become expensive. I know my students will appreciate any donations given to support this project, as they all will benefit from the use of quality pencils and a good electric pencil sharpener. With end of the year testing quickly approaching, pencils would be such a blessing to our classroom, as all students would have the resources they need.
