My Students

According to the National Council of Teachers of English, students work throughout their academic career to achieve writing skills that illustrate written communication: clearly, strategically, critically, and creatively. Students need a place to focus on developing their elementary writing skills.

I teach in a high poverty school located in a rural county of East Tennessee.

Over 50% of the school's population receives free or reduced lunches. Many of my students do not live in a "print rich" environment. There are little or no writing experiences before they get to school. It is my job to teach them to become effective writers and be able to communicate effectively.

My Project

A writing center in the classroom will provide students with a specific place in the classroom specific to their writing needs. This place will provide them with ample opportunities to express themselves on paper with different papers, pen, pencils, markers, etc.

A classroom writing center will provide students with an exciting place to explore the different types of writing and provide them with ample opportunities to create different pieces of writing.
