This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We want to learn to write," I hear my students say. I teach mainly English Language Learners. They struggle with the written and spoken language because most of them have parents who do not speak or write the English Language or very little at best.

My students come from high poverty communities.

They are the sweetest bunch of kids you will ever meet. I am looping with them this year from Kindergarten. Their parents struggle with providing them with basic school supplies. My students have to work very hard to succeed in school. Because they are mainly English Language Learners they face additional challenges to learn to read and write in English.

My Project

I would like to start writers workshop with my students next year. I need composition books for students to have a writers workshop manual. I also need folders to make writing offices and to store samples of students writing. I also would like for students to have special writing notebooks for students to publish final drafts of their writing. Writing is an important part of our literacy block. Students must learn to write well to be successful in life. I feel writers workshop will provide them with the support they need to become successful writers. Because my parents often cannot afford basic school supplies, I need to help with the "extras." Helping with funding of my project will allow students to have the correct tools they need for writers workshop.

Funding help for my project will make a difference in 24 lives and will provide support toward their future successes.

Writing is a skill they will always need in life. Please help me provide these amazing kids with the tools they need to become help them have a successful future.
