My Students

My students motivate me each and every day. They are thoughtful, strong, funny, insightful, kind, driven young people who push me each and every day to be a better teacher, and a more socially conscious individual. They demand so much from me, as I do from them.

My students face a variety of challenges--they attend school in an underfunded district, in a city plagued by segregated violence, run by individuals who fail to acknowledge the link between the two.

Despite the shortcomings of many of the politicians and leaders around them, my students come to school each and every day with an eye toward the future. They work hard to do their best, overcoming obstacles no child should face as hurdles to education, shaping themselves to be the change-makers we need in our workplaces and public institutions.

My Project

In the courses I teach, students are constantly viewing pictures, political cartoons, graphs, charts, primary sources and maps to gain a better understanding of each topic we explore. Without color copying capabilities at school, I often go to a office supply store to get copies. As my schedule gets busy, that does not always happen. Having this printer in the classroom will allow for me to print class materials in color, for the benefit of my students on a daily basis.

Students are very aware of their environment, and often see it as a direct reflection of the investment made in them, their learning, and their future.

Having quality technology and materials even the difference between black/white and color images sends a message to them that what they are doing matters. This printer, ink, and accompanying cart, will help ensure that that message is delivered each day!
