I always encourage my students to reach for the stars and be all they can be. I have committed to making this possible for these children. I want to make a difference in the lives of the children I teach.
I have been a third grade teacher my entire teaching career.
This upcoming school year I have decided I needed a change and I will be teaching fourth grade. I teach in New York. This school is a Title I public school located in a lower socio-economic community where 93% of the children receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Many of these children are English Language Learners and their parents are immigrants who do not speak the English language.
My Project
Since this school is located in a lower socio-economic community, resources like computers are rarely available in the homes of my students. Technology is so important nowadays. A computer can be used for almost everything throughout our school day, such as: research, interactive, educational games, typing reports, etc. I would like to give each child in my class this year the opportunity to familiarize themselves with a computer. I would like for each child to learn how to search the web and to realize the wealth of knowledge they can gain from having access to a computer. When you have a class of 28 students, having three computers in my classroom just doesn't seem like enough. What would be great about having a laptop computer is the fact that it can be moved from desk to desk and student to student. The school is equipped with a wireless modem which will make access easy for these children.
I am sure you are aware of the importance of technology and the vast opportunities that being computer literate will provide for these children.
I want them to succeed and have the resources that are necessary for them to achieve their goals. You can make a difference in the lives of these children. Please help me accomplish this goal!
