My Project

This engaging 6 week project will introduce second-grade students, in a rural community, to the basic needs of plants, their life cycle, and the science behind their growth. Students will plant fast-growing seeds (such as beans and grass), observe their plants daily, and connect the project to literature and poetry. Additionally, each student will have the opportunity to paint their own plant pot to take home as a final project. This hands-on activity aligns with the Connecticut Science Standards for science and makes connections to ELA standards through literature and creative writing.

My goal for this project is for my students to grow plants from seeds, track their growth over time, and learn about photosynthesis, the importance of water, light, and soil for plant growth.

They will also create a painted pot as a final project to take home. My students will plan and conduct investigations to determine the effects of sunlight, water, and temperature on plant growth. They will use evidence from observations to explain how the needs of plants are met in different environments. In addition, students will understand and describe the life cycle of a plant from seed to adult plant.

My second-grade students are a remarkable group of young learners, each bringing their unique personalities, talents, and perspectives into the classroom. They are full of energy, curiosity, and an eagerness to explore the world around them. Every day, they show an impressive level of kindness, cooperation, and a willingness to help one another. Whether it's working together on a group project, helping a classmate solve a problem, or sharing their ideas during class discussions, they constantly demonstrate their ability to collaborate and support one another.

Mrs. Kreft will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by July 10.
