My Project

This is the second year I have taught the same kids. How lucky am I? We now have a TK student at our school who has Treacher Collins Syndrome just like the character in the novel Wonder. Fourth grade is a perfect time to help kids understand that everyone is different...and wonderful. We read the story as a class, but I had to shine it on the board through a projector. Some kids lost their place when reading aloud, others couldn't focus without a book in front of them. I think my students would benefit from having their own copy (borrowed from me so that I can use them year after year). They could take it home and read it with their parents for even more great discussions than those we will be having in class. It is a great novel and shows multiple perspectives similar to what different kids in the class might be feeling. This books helps them with how to accept others and show kindness to everyone.
