My Students

Most of my students come from a rural "low income" community and all qualify for Special Education assistance through an IEP or Individual Education Plan.

Some merely need help in one subject, or maybe two, while others require a full-time staff paraprofessional to help them be successful each day. Despite their challenges, my students are awesome. They are receptive and eager to learn. There are little things that help them succeed each day, and one of those is just being able to move. Our school strives to create the best possible learning environment for our students but like anyone else, we are limited by our budget. We are learning that the traditional expectations of students remaining seated quietly in their desks does not apply to today's students. That is why we are looking for products such as the Wobble Stools to allow them to move around in a way that is not disruptive to the class and is beneficial to the student.

My Project

We want to create the best possible learning environment for our students. While a traditional student is capable of sitting quietly in a desk and working, most of ours are not. They need to move. They need to be able to move in a way that does not detract from the learning environment or their focus. That is what we expect to achieve with the 3 Wobble Stools. Students will be able to remain at their desk or table yet retain an amount of freedom of movement. Think of these stools as a hard version of an exercise ball which requires active participation on part of the user to remain in an upright, seated position. This also allows the user (student) a freedom of movement not permitted by a traditional student desk so that they are not constantly having to adjust themselves in their seats. By improving their learning environment in this way, we expect to increase all around academic performance and decrease negative behaviors.

By improving the learning environment and making it "user friendly" for today's students, they will be able improve their academic performance, and most importantly subject retention.

Students need to know more than just the who and when, but how. The logic behind the concepts that lead not only to knowledge but intelligence and a life long passion for learning. The Wobble Stools are but one tool from the box being used to improve our students education and learning environment.
