I teach science to all grades, K-5, at our small elementary school. The students come to the science lab once a week for 1 hour or more each visit. Our school has a wide range of students in its population. We serve neighborhood children, military families, and students from areas of higher poverty that ride the bus to our school by choice. We have a large percentage of free lunch students and many English language learners. While our elementary classrooms focus on all academic areas, my science lab is dedicated to the enrichment and enjoyment of science.

With so many students coming to the science lab, we are always in need of new ideas and concepts to explore. We want to keep things exciting and engaging, and new equipment and lessons will keep us on the right track. Supplies are also constantly needing replenishment in a science lab setting.

In order to broaden and vary the lessons among the students, I need some new kits that I think will be engaging and still address concepts in the K-5 science standards. The kits that I have in mind fit different grade levels and can be used in a variety of ways. This will help keep the lessons fresh and interesting for students and still be focused on the inquiry method of teaching science. The Mystery Festival kit can be taught to multiple grade levels and focuses on chemistry and scientific processes. The Electric Circuits kit is a must-need for 4th grade standards. The Leaf Classification and Rock Detectives will give us some good samples to work with for multiple purposes and grade levels.
