This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are explorers. They have been trying to explore who they are in this challenging world of high school and they have stepped up to many challenges, including in my own classroom. I have the quiet and shy students, I have the English Language Development (ELD) learners, I have students with Individual Education Plans (IEP), I have the student-athletes and the anime intrigued, I have the openly LGBTQ kids and I the students that make the bad decisions that land them in detention. But, through this mix of students, I have connected with all of them and they are discovering, on their own, who they choose to be and who they can be. High school is tough, but my students are tougher, and as I see their willingness to grow and become better humans, I find myself wanting to be their even better teacher.

My Project

The students have finished reading two books within the first semester of their first year of high school and I would like for them to create a project that shows their reflection of who they are and what they want to be, very much in the same way the characters in their stories did.

My students will create a project that will showcase their writing voice and style through their own creation of a booklet filled with vignettes or diary entries similar to the books we have read in class.

And, if they would like, they can add graphic novel panels to enhance their story.
