My Students

My students attend a suburban high school of about 2400 students and not unlike many teens, they struggle with engagement from time to time.

As part of my course we read the classic drama Twelve Angry Men which offers a critical look at the American criminal justice system.

I would love to present my students with the opportunity to further examine the strengths and weakness of our justice system by reading engaging stories of young people who have been affected by it.

My Project

These resources will allow my students to critically examine the American criminal justice system and its disproportionate effects on people of color. Another of the novels we read this year, To Kill a Mockingbird asserts that, "You never really understand a person until you step into [their] shoes." By reading No Choirboys, my students will learn first-hand from individuals whose life experiences are different from their own. This book will prompt questions that allow us to discuss the many ways in which our system both succeeds and fails. The book No Choirboys will be an enriching supplement to our study of Twelve Angry Men.
