My Students

Houston ISD is a large urban school district with a very diverse student population. Our high school draws students from all over the district. We specifically focus on getting students to improve their STEM skills by having a strong focus on Engineering, Science, and Math.

My classes consist of 12th grade physics students who are uaing project experience physics with hands-on activities.

This develops the students' inventive skills, challenging them to develop experiments and projects using their own unique experiences and knowledge.

EIHS is currently in it's 6th year. I am in my second year here. We are only in the 3rd year of teaching physics at EIHS and in need of additional lab equipment to help my students experience the laws of physics using current technology.

My Project

This DonorsChoose.org project is for a force plate to measure reaction and normal forces. The plate is similar to a scale but provides fast and accurate force measurements in real time, delivering the data directly to the student's computer.

This force plate will allow my students to gain an understanding of forces by observing the changing forces in events such as while riding an elevator.

The stream of data provided is much more robust than the data than can be collected using a simple bathroom scale and it will allow students to graph changes in force quickly through the computer interface.
