My Students

Science is best taught with a hands-on approach. A topic that is so concrete warrants concrete materials.

I teach an absolutely amazing and brilliant class of 18 kindergarten and first grade children.

We are at a Montessori school in Florida and have great opportunities to spend a lot of time outside, studying nature and the world around us. Science and evolution are a huge part of the Montessori curriculum. We typically begin the school year with a discussion of the Tree of Life, and how living things are classified. The Tree of Life Puzzle shows how diverse life is on Earth, as well as how we are all interconnected. Humans are only one leaf of the millions of species of plants and animals.

My Project

We need a Tree of Life Wooden Floor Puzzle, complete with a specimen fact file and a canvas control chart. Students will begin building at the trunk, branching off with the first unicellular life in the Kingdom Monera. The will keep building as the plants and animals become more complex and go through adaptations, changing their characteristics to help them survive.

Your donation will bring to life this very abstract concept of evolution.

Children are fascinated by the scientific explanation of life on Earth. They have such a burning desire to understand the world around them and how it came to be. The Tree of Life puzzle experience will be magical, as they build life around them, leaf by leaf.
