My Students

Our students have significant special needs and rely heavily on related services. As a physical therapist, I work on students' gross motor skills to access their environment, as well as provide and fix equipment to optimize their positioning in their wheelchair, desk, standers, etc. COVID-19 has had an impact on PT services as we try to limit the sharing of equipment to reduce the spread of germs, and it has emphasized the importance of making sure their current equipment is fitting and comfortable for when they are home in case we are unable to see them for several days at a time due to quarantine or other virus-related situations.

My Project

These tools and equipment will make it easier to address the needs of our students! Many of our students use a wheelchair or an assistive device as their primary means of mobility and these items often need repairs and adjustments. In light of COVID-19, it is harder to get into the wheelchair repair shop or make an appointment with a doctor to get new equipment due to increases wait times and restrictions. With the necessary tools, we as physical therapists can help adjust the equipment enough to still be functional and comfortable until they are able to get to their medical appointments.

The exercise equipment requested are fun new and creative treatment ideas that will motivate our students during their physical therapy sessions.

COVID-19 has been hard on everyone, and some new fun equipment can be a positive outlet for our students.
