Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic 5rd graders in a low income school in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. My students live in a high poverty area. They come from diverse backgrounds. All of our students qualify for our free meal program for both breakfast and lunch.

My Project

During this difficult time with the pandemic, I have been looking for ways to help my students succeed. In my fifth grade class, I have students that are currently 1 to 2 years behind in their reading progress. I have a student that recently joined my class. This courageous child has recently moved to the United States. He has joined my class mid-year and he doesn't speak English, and cannot read or write in English.

It is extremely difficult to differentiate my teaching because my school does not have the necessary materials.

I have been searching high and low for materials for my ELL students. We do not speak the same language and I looking forward to be able to build the bridge so we can communicate.

I know that these materials will help my new students and also help the children struggling to be on grade level.
