Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is dedicated to exceeding high expectations in education. While we are focused on developing the academic, social, and emotional skills students need to become college-ready, we also want to ensure students feel safe and loved when they enter our classrooms.

Because of COVID-19, few students attended in person.

I am looking forward to the upcoming school year to meet the incredible students at Marsh - many with unique learning styles and diverse backgrounds and cultures!

My Project

This past year, Reading teachers at Marsh saw that students engaged more with the text when they had a personal copy to take home and study. I want to continue to provide students with copies of our novel studies this year so students can begin to build their personal libraries.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which is based on the author's experiences and cartoon drawings that reflect the character's art, tells the story of Junior, a budding cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation.

In reading this, we hope that students will explore identity, traditions, relationships, and the impact of their choices. I am excited for students to engage with this text and hope you will consider donating!
