Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative and hardworking. Before the pandemic, students were making excellent progress in mathematics and reading-despite having the most basic resources at school. But now that students are learning from home, they have experienced setbacks in their progress.

My Project

Switching to online teaching because of COVID 19 has forced me to rethink the way I teach my students. While there is no substitute for personal contact with my first graders, the second best is virtual communication. With the help of this presentation camera, I will have the ability to continue presenting mini-lessons to guide students through the writing process. Students will be able to view and listen to Math and Reading lessons. In first grade it is very important that students learn how to blend words and practice reading. The camera would give me the opportunity to conduct word blending lessons in the same way I did in the classroom. The same holds true in Math, as I would be able to show them how to use items at home to understand concepts and create models. After the lesson, students would be able to replay it or pause it to adjust the pace to their learning.

Unfortunately, most of my students have parents that are essential workers and/or are struggling to help students learn academic concepts.

Students recently received an iPad to help them access distance learning and are finally able to connect with me. Before they received iPads, parents were sharing their cell phones or an older child's laptop in order to access learning resources for all their children. Sadly, it took a pandemic for every child to have a tablet or laptop.

The features in the presentation camera would enable me to address students' socio-emotional needs too. I would be able to continue to share my love of Art with students by continuing to teach them origami and drawing. This powerful tool would enhance and facilitate the quality of instruction for all my students as we continue distance learning into the next school year.
