My Students
California's students face one of the biggest challenges in education: lack of funding. The Art program does not receive any funding from the school or the district. All of our funding comes from parent donations and the rare grant. We are hoping Donorschoose.org can help, too!
Our High School is in California in a quiet community in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Many years ago Prop 13 classified our school district as a "rural" district. Consequently,our district does not receive as much funding from the state as it should. Since that time, the community has become accustomed to relying on itself for funding education. We do our best to pass bond measures, parcel taxes, and raise funds through academic boosters.
My Project
The Arts require students to use a lot of consumable materials such as paper, canvas, pencils, pens, and paint. These materials can only be used once or for a very short amount of time. We do our best to use quality materials, so that our students can have the best possible experience when learning to develop standard skills.
Every year we spend a few thousand dollars in parent donations to replenish these supplies.
Donorschoose and its supporters can help alleviate our financial burden by purchasing some of these supplies. With this assistance, we will be able to purchase more of the same standard quality products so that every student is able to use a new pencil, pen, or paint brush instead of a worn down or broken one.
