Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my heroes. My school is located in the heart of Liberty City, Miami. This is a neighborhood that suffers from horrible odds like gun violence, drug abuse and low-income housing. My students live through these dark circumstances, yet still are able to be the light in my life. I love them like they are my own.

My students are truly the roses that are growing from the concrete.

They are with me from 7:30 am when the school gates open until 6:00 pm at night when aftercare is done (after school is to provide a safe place to be after school hours to keep students out of trouble). Every minute I am with them I learn how to be a better person in the world I often take for granted.

My Project

The goal intended to help improve the problem of our students not having clean garments is to build a laundry mat inside of our school.

This laundry mat will provide parents and students a place to get their child’s clothes cleaned at no cost.

This will produce results because the students will have clean clothes to feel confident in. They will be able to have clean clothes to come to school in and receive the education needed. This will also strengthen the parent/school relationship in our community. The village used to raise the child will become strong and remain healthy. All of these things will build a better life at home and in school for the students.

We will be using donations to supply our laundry mat with:

1. Fabric detergent

2. Fabric Softner

3. Bleach

4. Laundry bags
