About My Students

As I was talking with Chris, Patrick, and Carinna, I was amazed about how they thought of a project that addresses a real need in our classroom. They could have said iPads for everybody, but they very thoughtfully came up with this project.

My students have the privilege of having a laptop that is their very own during their school day. But very few have the ability to print outside of class. Chris immediately mentioned paper, but then thought a little harder about printing. As they discussed it more, Chris, Patrick, and Carinna came up with the idea of having a printer for the students to use in our classroom.

The students already have used this opportunity to solve a real-world problem. They also realized that the Printshop idea will have ongoing costs such as paper and ink. Students can research the necessary materials for a printer and come up with a reasonable price for students to make prints. The money collected can be used to refill ink and paper. Students will also be able to learn how their profits can be used to expand. They could work to create a school supply store in our very classroom.

In Their Own Words

Our project idea is to get a printer, ink, and a desk to put the printer on. This is to help our class print out essays without making trips to the library. This will allow us to have more class time. Also, this will allow us to have less complication of sending five students at a time to the library.

I can help by raising awareness in our school and possibly having a fundraiser to receive donations. The more we share the project, the better chance we have to complete the project and bring the printer to our classroom.

This project is important to me because I understand that not everybody has a printer at their home. Not having a printer keeps us from being able to turn in assignments and projects that are on our computers. This will help us solve this problem and this will allow us to get ready for the future.
