My Project

When I came in as a teacher, I expected everything in my classroom to go according to plan, but I was sure wrong about that! At the very top of that list is the use and disappearance of supplies. While I want my students to bring a pencil to class every day and be frugal with the glue stick, this is not what always happens. Although I have tried many methods to conserve my supplies, at the end of the day, much of my focus goes toward devising plans to save these supplies rather than advancing my instructional practices.

In the article "Give the Kid a Pencil" by Chad Donohue, we can see that we all have our moments.

This might mean that a student forgets a pencil or uses too much glue. It is up to me as the teacher to respond to these situations, and Instead of blaming the students or making them take elaborate steps to conserve supplies, I want them to feel free to use them as they need.

As a kid, I always had a pencil given whenever I needed it, so there was no concern about not being able to complete my work or fear of a teacher's reaction to the lack of my supplies. I want to create a safe environment like I had, where we are able to meet the students where they are rather than having them conform to conventional ideas of preparedness.

Although I would love to make this a reality on my own, I am not able to finance this dream, so I am asking for your help to allow my students the supplies they need to be successful!
