My Project

After an especially stressful school year, my students returned to the classroom excited to learn and willing to be exposed to new and rigorous learning and topics. Culturally Responsive Education is a vital extension of that exposure.

The opportunity to see themselves and their peers, as well as different cultures represented in the reading material in the classroom, makes the stories they read, relatable to the lives they lead.

This will in turn encourage them to read more.

Books that address Culturally Responsive and Social Emotional Learning are an integral part of any classroom library. These books incorporate common life experiences while sharing simple concepts of human nature. I have made my classroom a print rich environment which includes a specific place where they can chose their own books. Here they are able read and listen to books that excite, interest and cause them to imagine the world beyond their low income community.
