My Students

The class of 2019 at our school will be special and unique. They are the fourth graduating class that will be a part of a new learning experience being called Departmentalization. The children will change classrooms in the 5th grade for ELA and Math instruction. This procedure is typical of Junior High. In order to better prepare the children, this program continues to be piloted each September.

This will be very exciting for me as their teacher and the students as well however, it brings about many challenges.

I love the children of this school because they are always eager and willing to take on new challenges and learning adventures. I am entering my fourth year at our school. I already introduced the children to new strategies and programs for learning and look forward to continuing. This will be a bit of a difficult task to provide the children with all the learning materials necessary to engage their learning.

My Project

My 5th graders are so excited to meet Dolores N Morries, the author of th book The Soldier That Wagged Her Tail: A Black Veteran's Story of WWII. The book follows her father William and his beloved dog Trixie's journey from the horrors of the war in Europe to the arms of Morris' family back home. Dolores N. Morris is coming to our school in May. I would love to be able to give my fifth graders this inspiring book as their graduation present.

The message of this story is one of hope, courage, faith and love.

It is more than just a story of a black soldier and his dog. The Soldier That Wagged Her Tail holds a universal message that impacts all of us. It is a story and message that I hope my students remember forever. Imagine being able to meet the author and have this book as your own to keep forever? With your help, I will be able to give my students their own copy of this incredible book with the author's signature. This is a gift that can inspire them and a memory that they can cherish forever.
