My Project

Mentor books offer diverse perspectives and stories that allow my K-5 students to step into the shoes of characters with different backgrounds, challenges, and emotions. By reading these stories, students develop empathy and learn to see the world through the eyes of another person, fostering understanding and acceptance of differences.

As students connect with characters who face adversity, they are inspired to work toward alleviating suffering in others.

These stories often showcase characters who overcome challenges through kindness, teamwork, and resilience. This motivates my students to apply these lessons in real life, helping peers who struggle emotionally or socially.

Fidget balls and calming stickers provide tools for students to manage their own emotions, reducing stress and promoting self-regulation. As they learn to calm themselves, they become more attuned to others' emotional states. I measure success in compassion by observing increased instances of students comforting a crying classmate, sharing fidget tools with anxious peers, or offering stickers to cheer up a friend. These actions demonstrate their growing ability to recognize and respond to others' suffering with kindness.
