My Students
As a teacher, I strive to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation and the ability to focus. However, it can be very difficult for my students to become their best selves, especially during a pandemic where in-person learning has been denied for a portion of their kindergarten career and will be denied all of their 1st-grade career.
My class consists of 25 "AMAZING" fully remote 1st-grade students.
Each morning they greet me with brightest eyes and the biggest smiles. They are always eager to learn! These students are from diverse backgrounds. 60% are general education students and 40% are special education students. Also, blended in are English Language Learners where their parents speak little to no English. It is usually quite difficult for the students to stay focused or be refocused during in-person learning so you can imagine how much more difficult it is for them to be focused and learn remotely.
My Project
I am requesting basic school supplies that my scholars will be able to use at home. The Covid-19 pandemic has created many hardships for our school community. Many parents are finding it even more difficult to afford the simple basic school supplies necessary for learning. An example of this need is when I asked my students to take out a notebook and pencil. One student responded, “Ms. R, I do not have a pencil”. My heart was broken because I knew there was nothing I could do at that moment. He was on the other side of a computer screen. . These babies are in need of basic supplies such as notebooks, crayons, pencils and glue which they can keep at home to complete assigned tasks. .
