My Project

Many of the students in my classroom come from families who have immigrated to the community we are in today. We have families that come from all over the world, speak a variety of languages, and have a variety of unique customs and cultures. Many of my students have either lived in these countries as well and are newcomers, have travelled to these places to visit family, or have heard stories of these places so important to their families.

These stories focus on the definition of home and how home may be a combination of smells, tastes, sounds, and sights.

They uncover how these experiences of home may change as families immigrate to other countries and create new homes. They encourage understanding of those whose culture differs from ours and those whose families come from places around the globe. They also focus on indigenous people, a group of people who have always called this place home.

We will use these books to write and tell stories of home and where our families call home.
