My Project
I am the School Psychologist for a high school with 2400 students. This project is to create a safe welcoming environment for students to deal with all sorts of mental health issues, to have a place to be able to gather their thoughts, get themselves in a good mental and emotional state, in order to be successful throughout the day.
Since the Covid shutdown, we have seen a major increase in depression, anxiety, and many other mental health issues in our schools.
We are trying a new strategy which is the Serenity Room. Students may come in, take a break for about 15 minutes; it is not a place to hide to cut classes, and the School Psychologist will be in the room to assist the students get to a good state of mental health.
The area rug is to cover old broken tiles on the floor of the room, the extension cord is to create warmer lighting with lamps instead of the overhead flourescent lighting.
