A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I work in a diverse middle school in Darien, IL where I am a counselor to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I run groups, lead classroom guidance lessons, and meet individually with students. Like most teenagers, some of the students I see are currently struggling with anxiety, depression, isolation and identity issues.
I am committed to supporting my students in every way that I can and hope to provide them with resources to meet their social-emotional needs.
My Project
These books will be used to create our school's first Mental Health Library. My hope is that these books will help students feel represented, supported and give them more resources to help cope with social-emotional issues. We have a diverse population of students with a wide range of backgrounds and struggles, and these books will hopefully help them feel seen and not alone. The library will be located in my counseling office and open for all students to borrow. With the covid pandemic and political unrest that the country has seen in the last year, it is more important than ever to make sure that all students feel connected and supported.
