Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The school counselor's office is the one place in a school building where students will come to for just about every and anything. It is important that my students are provided with a safe environment and space when they are faced with the many challenges in a day and adversities that come with life.

The school counselor's office should be full of resources and essential items where students can seek and receive the support they need.

Whether that is reading a book focusing on learning about mental health and interventions, coloring, talking while utilizing a fidget or meditating to the calming scent of lavender.

Donations of therapeutic books that focus on understanding mental health challenges and concerns, can benefit students in their learning and autonomy so one day they reach a more independent approach to self healing. Coloring utensils and activities on this list will allow students to create coping skills that that can start in the school building, but then they eventually can take this skill into their world beyond school doors. Fidgets are always a win! Students use them to talk and to just self soothe in times of need. Therapeutic scents such as lavender, enhance the calming mood of the safe space they seek and need. While games like Mancala are great get to know you activities, make it easier to calm uneasy nerves or discuss difficult topics when they just need to unpack some difficult stuff.

These items will be a great asset to their safe space, the school counselor's office.
