My Students

My 3rd graders absolutely love to read. Just one problem: we don't have the money to stock our classroom library with the books we want and need to really push their literacy growth.

I teach 3rd grade at a Title One elementary school.

My students are really motivated to learn and grow, and they love to read. More than anything, they look forward to our daily Read Alouds, where we sit on The Reading Rug, collectively read a book, and discuss it. These Read Alouds hook my kids on reading, and often serve as the vehicle behind our Language Arts lessons. My kids enjoy the books and discussions so much, they don't even realize they're learning. But, shh, don't tell them that...

My Project

Every month, our principal chooses a new book as her Book of the Month Club selection. At the end of the month, the students who have read the book get invited to the school's Media Center for a discussion of the book over lunch and snacks. My kids eagerly await the end of the month so they can share what they loved about the chosen book. The only problem is that neither they nor the school has the money to obtain the selected books. Having them in our classroom library will enable every student in my class to participate in these great opportunities, and more importantly, develop my students into lifelong readers.

Since we don't have enough school funds to stock our classroom library with the necessary books, your contribution will further develop my students' love of reading, and continue their love of the shared reading experience.
