My Project
When I began this year I quickly learned that our already established food pantry served students and families weekly--sometimes daily. When speaking with students utilizing the pantry, I I found that if food was a need, 9 times out of 10, clothing was a need, too. What began as a small gesture of kindness and love to provide pants or socks to students in need, soon grew into a school and community endeavor to create something bigger--our school’s Clothes Closet. As a former English teacher and a Harry Potter fan myself, I like to think about our clothes closet as a sort of "Room of Requirement". If our students need it, we want to have it available to them. Currently, the closet is housed in my office, and we are mostly functioning out of plastic bins graciously organized by size and gender from community volunteers. I would love nothing more for our closet to turn into a place where our kids can more easily "shop" for the things they need without feeling like they are rumaging through bins at the local thrift shop. Clothes and shoe racks, as well as organizing storage bins will help me achieve this goal. Likewise, we have a large need for some basic zip-up sweaters and sweat pants, as well as belts for our male students. One student asked me to share that he is tired of using zipties to secure his pants, so belts would be used and appreciated. Your donation will directly impact students attending our High School throughout the year; but moreover, this project will help to ensure their basic needs are met so that they can reach their potential inside and outside of the school building. Please help me help our students feel confident and loved.
