Help me give my students a Sony PXW-Z90V 4K HD Camcorder so they can learn multiple components of journalism, including sports broadcasting and live streaming school events for those who cannot make it.

My Project

The Roar is the student-led newspaper for the school, but it is limited. Many students at our school are interested in learning broadcast and sports journalism; however, the journalism program is not equipped nor does it have the funds to support the students. Also, several of the interested students do not have room in their schedule to take the journalism class. Last year, a group of students created the Broadcasting Club, where they pieced together rudimentary equipment to film school events and upload them to The Roar’s YouTube channel. This year, the club has been pretty successful in live streaming some sports games. Several parents and staff members have shown appreciation for the ability to see an event they missed, and multiple coaches have been appreciative of the club covering less-attended sports.

The camera will allow students to practice their passion, develop skills not taught in traditional classes, and experience sports and other school events they are unable to attend.

With the camera, not only can students in the journalism class who write for The Roar branch out into broadcast journalism, so can the greater student body interested in it. Further, the camera will help more people see events live when they are unable to attend, and students interested in sports commentating can have the opportunity to stream and commentate in real time.
