Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are all English Language Learners, all at different levels of literacy in their own languages as well as in English. There has been so much emphasis on reading with devices, and I would like to change that for them by using tangible books that are visually friendly while interesting.

The rhythm in the poetry and "Chrysanthemum" books helps students practice the fluency of English using repetition and rhyming, whether they are reading aloud or on their own.

Additionally, the "Chrysanthemum" book promotes self-worth and confidence. The images, along with concise facts, in the "Weird But True" books are so engaging for students who are hesitant to touch a book in English. The pictures allow their own connections to their world in order to comprehend text.

Having access to these books will provide the engagement and motivation they need to become better English readers, writers and speakers!
