My Students

My special needs students reside in Brooklyn, NY, in a school district where many of the families are surviving on low incomes. The school does not have a budget to supply all students with the resources they need. All students are reading below grade level.

My students love to read, and celebrate each other as they improve in their reading skills.

Many do not have a quiet spot in their homes to read, and complete assignments. They struggle with devices that are not compatible, and keep freezing or breaking down.

They are an amazing group of students, who face the challenges in front of them head on. I would love for them to start the upcoming school year with resources they can enjoy and depend on.

My Project

Students will be able to use their individual Fire tablets and headphones to create a reading room of their own. They can remove themselves from among the busy life of parents, siblings, pets, television and other distractions. Students will be able to find a quiet place just for themselves.

This personal reading room will help to enhance their love for reading.

The equipment will give them the resources for reading subjects that interest them. This experience will further their love for reading and help to move them closer to grade level. I would love to be a part of their journey as they discuss and write about their readings during distance learning.
